For Agilent GC autosamplers: PTFE-tipped plunger and 23-26s tapered dual-gauge needle for reproducible injection volumes and less cross-contamination.
The Agilent 5181-3354 Gold Standard 10 µL autosampler syringe has a PTFE-tipped plunger and a 23-26s tapered needle, for Agilent 7693A, 7673, 7683 and other autosamplers, supporting split / splitless injection. The Gold Standard series is positioned as an all-purpose choice balancing reproducibility and service life, 6 per pack, a routine consumable for keeping a GC system running day to day.

Gold Standard vs Blue Line: how to choose
Agilent GC autosampler syringes come in two main series:
| Feature | Gold Standard (this product) | Blue Line |
|---|---|---|
| Autosamplers | 7693A, 7673, 7683, 6850 | Mainly optimized for 7693A |
| Plunger design | PTFE gas-tight tip (replaceable) | Precision-matched steel plunger (not replaceable) |
| Main advantage | Broad compatibility, lower cost | Higher injection precision, low carryover |
| Recommended use | General quantitative analysis, routine samples | Trace analysis, GC/MS trace detection |
Why a 23-26s tapered needle?
The 23-26s tapered needle combines the advantages of two gauges: the 23 gauge upper section gives enough mechanical strength to avoid bending, while the 26s lower section (fine tip) reduces septum damage with each injection, extending septum life and lowering the risk of septum particles contaminating samples.
The PTFE-tipped plunger is gas-tight, helping prevent solvent evaporation and cross-contamination — especially useful for low-boiling organic solvent samples (methanol, dichloromethane, etc.).
⚠️ Maintenance: check the needle for deformation after every 200–500 injections, and replace it every 500 injections or when tailing or baseline problems appear. If the plunger does not slide smoothly, clean it lightly and test before replacing the whole syringe.
Selection table
