Anti-static and standard aluminum foil bags
This page covers two kinds of aluminum foil bags: anti-static bags (for electronic parts, ICs, PCBs and reels) and standard bags (moisture- and light-proof, custom printing).
An anti-static aluminum foil bag (also called a moisture barrier bag, MBB) is a three-layer laminate: PET outside, aluminum foil in the middle and anti-static PE inside. The foil blocks moisture and light, so the bag protects ICs, PCBs, reels and other electronic parts that are sensitive to both moisture and static. Standard foil bags without anti-static treatment are used for moisture- and light-proof custom packaging. “Anti-static bag” is also used for pink PE bags, which are a different product.
A. Anti-static bags (electronic parts, ICs, PCBs, reels)
Three points matter: the three-layer structure (the foil blocks moisture and light, the inner layer is anti-static); moisture protection needs desiccant and a humidity indicator card; and the specifications are stated values (test reports on request).
Dry packing: put the components, desiccant and humidity indicator card into the bag, evacuate the air and heat-seal.
| Item | Anti-static bag | Standard bag |
|---|---|---|
| Surface resistance | 10⁶–10⁹ Ω (can be made to 10⁶ Ω) | Not specified |
| Tribocharging voltage | < 50 V (customizable) | Not applicable |
| Puncture strength | 80–140 N | Depends on specification |
| Seal strength | 70–90 N | Depends on specification |
| Thickness | By size, see the size table | By size, see the size table |
| Main uses | Electronic components, IC chips, precision parts, SMT materials | Food, tea, coffee beans, chemicals |
Two key choices: whether you need ESD protection (anti-static bags at 10⁶–10⁹ Ω or standard bags), and whether you need vacuum sealing (flat bags can be heat-sealed, or evacuated and then sealed for long-term storage). Choose anti-static bags for electronic components and IC chips; standard bags are enough for food, tea and chemicals. Layer structure is a stated value; no test report is attached.
B. Standard bags (moisture- and light-proof, custom printing)
Standard bags have no anti-static treatment and are used for food, tea, coffee beans, chemicals and other goods that only need protection from moisture and light.
- Bag types: zipper bags, tear notches, printed or plain can be made to order. Stock items are flat (three-side seal) bags in 69 × 64 cm and 50 × 33 cm.
- Printing: one-color logo printing (batch numbers, warnings, symbols); embossing or engraving on request.
- Quantity: small minimum order; volume pricing on request; samples available.
- Custom: special sizes from 4 × 6 cm to over 40 × 50 cm, thickness, seal type (flat, stand-up, zipper).

Sizes are outside dimensions (stated values); “—” means not stated. Stock changes; please check before ordering. To find a size, measure the length and width of the item, add room for sealing, and choose a larger size from the table.
Foil bags for large equipment
For export or long-distance shipping of large equipment, the whole machine is often wrapped in a three-dimensional foil bag: the foil blocks moisture, light and gases, and with heat sealing and evacuation it forms a moisture barrier inside the wooden crate or carton. A humidity indicator card inside lets you check the condition. Custom designs on request.
FAQ
What are aluminum foil bags used for in electronics? Mainly two things. First, dry packing of moisture-sensitive devices (MSD): the IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 dry-pack process uses moisture barrier bags, desiccant and humidity indicator cards. One-color warning labels and symbols can be printed on the bag to your specification. Second, protecting ESD-sensitive items with shielding packaging when they leave the ESD protected area (EPA). Bag types include flat, zipper and gusseted bags, plus sizes for 7 in. and 13 in. reels, IC reels and IC trays.
Can anti-static foil bags be vacuum-sealed? Yes. Foil bags are heat-sealable: flat bags can be sealed with a heat sealer, or evacuated with a vacuum sealer first and then sealed. Sealing temperature and time depend on the bag material and sealer; sealing conditions for these bags are given on request.
What is the difference between anti-static foil bags and shielding bags? The terms are often mixed up. Look at two things separately on a data sheet: shielding performance is the energy penetration measured to ANSI/ESD STM11.31 (in nanojoules, nJ), and ANSI/ESD S541 sets the shielding limit at below 50 nJ; moisture protection is the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR or MVTR). The two values cannot replace each other. For moisture protection, choose the bags on this page; no test report is attached, values on request.
What are these bags called in English? Foil bags for moisture protection are moisture barrier bags (MBB); bags focused on shielding are static shielding bags; single-layer pink PE bags are anti-static bags. US military specification MIL-PRF-81705 is titled Barrier Materials, Flexible, Electrostatic Protective, Heat-Sealable.
Are zipper foil bags available? Yes, in the anti-static version: zipper bags can be opened and closed repeatedly, in 10 × 16, 23 × 26 and 40 × 44 cm (stated values). Zippers on standard bags can be made to order.
