Ceramic fibre tape: 1260 °C woven tape for pipe wrapping and seals

About this tape: woven ceramic fibre tape made from alumina (Al₂O₃) and silica (SiO₂) fibre, for 1000 °C continuous use and 1260 °C short-term. It is used for wrapping pipes, sealing furnace doors and insulating exhaust systems, and is flexible enough to wrap odd shapes. The fibre is melted at high temperature, drawn and woven into tape, and usually reinforced with glass fibre or stainless steel wire for tensile strength.

Where it is used

  • Heat insulation wrapping of industrial furnaces, boilers and heat treatment equipment
  • Sealing threaded joints of hot pipes and equipment gaps
  • Insulation of power equipment and high-temperature electrical systems
  • High-temperature wrapping on metalworking and casting equipment
  • Insulation work up to 1000 °C continuous

Choosing width and thickness

WidthThicknessTypical use
2 cm, 3 cm3 mmSmall pipes, cable protection, small equipment
5 cm2, 3 or 5 mmMedium pipes, exhaust pipes, furnace door seals (5 mm for thicker insulation)
10 cm3 mmLarge-diameter pipes, kiln joint seals

Installation: overlap the tape by 50% when wrapping so there are no gaps, and secure the outer layer with wire or stainless steel clips. For continuous operation above 1000 °C, or frequent thermal shock, choose the stainless steel wire reinforced version.

Common questions

What temperature can ceramic fibre tape take? 1000 °C for continuous use and 1260 °C for short periods.

Which ceramic fibre tape width should I choose? Narrow (2–3 cm) for small pipes and cable bundles, wide (5–10 cm) for large pipes and furnace bodies.
