Choosing cleanroom shoe covers: non-woven, ESD conductive-strip and ESD soft-sole compared

The three types serve completely different roles. In one line each: non-woven covers are for short visits or non-ESD areas; conductive-strip covers are for staff or visitors in ESD-controlled areas; ESD soft-sole covers are for regular staff who stand for long periods and move around the plant often. Choosing the wrong type doesn’t just weaken protection: non-woven covers actually generate static through friction in ESD areas, which is counterproductive.

Common misuse warning: walking on an ESD-controlled floor in non-woven shoe covers generates extra static charge through friction, a potential risk to sensitive electronic components. In ESD-controlled areas, always use conductive-strip or ESD soft-sole covers.
