ESD saddle stools have a saddle-shaped seat that is lower at the front and higher at the back, with no backrest, gas lift height adjustment and 360° swivel; they are one of the most common work stools on electronics lines and in labs. This page brings together the shaped seats in this series: 5 saddle seats (including 3 wave styles), 20 ESD handle stools (with a handle hole at the back edge of the seat, including 3 raised-back-edge styles), 1 horn backrest chair and 3 horn seats, plus 3 ESD standing chairs (also called sit-stand chairs, with a higher seat for half-sitting, half-standing work), 32 models in all, with custom versions available.
How the three pages divide: for backless adjustable stools with round seats, see ESD chairs (adjustable swivel stools) with ring, aluminum or five-star base; for standard and armchairs with backrests, see ESD chairs with backrest; saddle, handle and horn seats and standing chairs are on this page. Back to the ESD chair overview: eight style pages grouped by backrest, seat material and height adjustment.

Heights are as labeled in the manufacturer’s model names. For models where the height is “ask us”, the manufacturer labels an adjustable range of 460–600 mm, not confirmed as seat height. For the 9 newer models (raised-back-edge handle seat, wave saddle seat and horn seat), “fixed or casters” means both base types cost the same; specify when ordering. Product photos are representative; go by the model name for the base type. Combinations not listed can be made to order; ask us.
How to choose
- Shape: for a backless seat that makes leaning forward and turning easy, choose a saddle or handle seat; for a short backrest, choose the horn backrest; for long standing work with an occasional lean, choose a standing chair.
- Base: handle models come with ring, chrome, nylon (black plastic) or aluminum alloy bases; the newer raised-back-edge handle, wave saddle and horn seat models have ring, chrome five-star or aluminum bases; the earlier saddle and horn backrest models use five-star bases; standing chairs have curved-leg or frame bases and need no casters.
- Casters or glides: to move between workbenches, choose casters; for a fixed, stable position, choose fixed glides. The supplier does not state whether casters and glides are conductive; ask us.
- Foot ring: for higher seats (60 cm and up), a foot ring is recommended so your feet have somewhere to rest; models with “foot ring” in the name include one.
- Height: measure the work surface height and your seated leg length first, then choose the matching height range; for models where height is “ask us”, tell us your work surface height.
Use with
- A chair is only complete when grounded; for grounding methods and height references, see the ESD swivel chair specification sheet.
- Work surfaces: ESD workbench series, topped with ESD table mats.
- When seated, ground your wrist with an antistatic wrist strap (for cleanrooms).
FAQ
How do ESD saddle stools and handle stools differ? Neither has a backrest. A saddle stool’s seat is lower at the front and higher at the back, like a saddle; a handle stool has a handle hole at the back edge so you can move the stool aside easily. This page includes both.
How do standing chairs differ from ordinary adjustable stools? Standing chairs have a higher seat so you work half-sitting, half-standing, suited to long periods at a standing workstation; ordinary adjustable stools are for seated work. This page has 3 standing chair structures; see the model list.
Where do I find chairs with backrests or round seats? For standard and armchairs with backrests, see ESD chairs with backrest; for backless round-seat adjustable stools, see ESD chairs (adjustable swivel stools) with ring, aluminum or five-star base.
Is there a surface resistance value or test report? Some models are labeled 10^8–10^10 by the manufacturer, without unit or measurement method, and there is no test report; the newer models are labeled 10^4–10^9 Ω (raised-back-edge handle seat) or 10^5–10^8 Ω (wave saddle seat, horn seat); other models are not labeled, so ask us. Measurements may vary with tolerances, tools and methods.
Can you customize the base, height or seat? Yes, contact us. When requesting a quote, tell us the shape, base, casters or glides, whether you need a foot ring, your work surface height and the quantity.
Can they be used in cleanrooms? This page makes no cleanroom class claim; if you need them for a cleanroom, tell us the cleanliness class and we will confirm.
How to request a quote: please tell us the shape (saddle, handle, horn backrest, standing chair), base material, casters or glides, whether you need a foot ring, your work surface height, surface resistance requirements and quantity.
