ESD chairs with backrest (ESD task chairs): black PU foam seat and back, 5 backrest styles, 17 models

ESD chairs with backrest (also called antistatic chairs, ESD task chairs or ESD operator chairs) are seated work chairs common on electronics production lines, inspection and test stations and in laboratories. The seat and back are black polyurethane (PU) foam, with gas lift height adjustment and 360° swivel. Bases come in chrome-plated, aluminum alloy or nylon, with casters or fixed glides and an optional foot ring, and armrest versions are also available.

This page covers styles with a backrest: standard (large back), armrest, ribbed back (single post and double tube) and small back, 17 models in all, with custom versions available. For positions that don’t need a backrest, see ESD chairs (adjustable swivel stools) with ring, aluminum or five-star base (backless round stools).

Heights are labeled values. For the standard style, caster models sit about 2 cm higher than fixed models; foot ring models are 60–80 cm. Nylon with “fixed glides + foot ring” is the only base material in the standard style with that configuration.

How to choose

  • Measure your work surface first: generally, a seat about 25–30 cm lower than the work surface is comfortable. For normal-height surfaces, choose a model without a foot ring (fixed 40–54 cm, casters 42–56 cm); for high workbenches of 90 cm or more, choose a foot ring model (60–80 cm).
  • Then the backrest: the large back (standard, armrest) gives more support for long seated work; ribbed styles (single post, double tube) have ribbed seat and back; the small back (50 cm) suits positions that mainly need lumbar support and frequent turning.
  • Then the base: chrome-plated looks bright; aluminum alloy won’t rust and is light; nylon is a black plastic base. If you have load requirements, ask us for load ratings first.
  • Then casters or glides: to move between workbenches, choose casters; for positions with strict static control (such as bare-die handling or precision SMT assembly), fixed glides are recommended, keeping the feet in constant floor contact. With casters, make sure the wheels are conductive, or static can’t drain through them; for how to judge grounding, see the ESD swivel chair specification sheet first.
  • Finally, confirm static requirements: surface resistivity is labeled 10⁸–10¹⁰; no test report is supplied, so tell us first if you need values or a report.

Where to use them

  • Electronics lines: inspection, insertion, assembly, test and packing stations with long seated work
  • Repair and rework stations: seated desoldering and inspection, where chairs must be antistatic and adjustable
  • Laboratories and test stations: operating instruments, testing and recording while seated
  • High workbenches: foot ring models (60–80 cm) give your feet somewhere to rest
  • Complete ESD workstations: plan grounding for chair, workbench, table mat and wrist strap together

Surface resistivity is a labeled value (10⁸–10¹⁰) with no unit or measurement method given, and no test report is supplied; please also ask about load capacity, caster specifications and shipping. For cleanroom use, tell us the cleanliness class and we will confirm.

Use with

  • ESD chairs (adjustable swivel stools) with ring, aluminum or five-star base: backless round stools for positions that don’t need a backrest.
  • ESD swivel chair specification sheet: base and height references and grounding checks, worth reading before choosing.
  • ESD workbench series: pair seated workstations with ESD workbenches.
  • ESD table mats: plan grounding of table mats together with chairs and wrist straps.
  • Antistatic wrist straps (for cleanrooms): ground the seated operator with a wrist strap.

How to request a quote: please tell us the backrest style (standard, armrest, ribbed, small back), base material, casters or glides, whether you need a foot ring and armrests, your work surface height, surface resistance requirements and quantity.
