Three types of ESD packaging
Rigid trays suit small ICs, connectors and sensors that need precise positioning, and can be reused on automated loading lines. Conductive corrugated boxes serve as outer cartons for batches of components; they are light and low-cost, and are usually single-use or used only a few times. Black anti-static soft trays are made of soft EVA or PE and can be die-cut to the component’s outline, cushioning irregularly shaped parts or parts with fragile leads and preventing bent leads in transit.
Anti-static protection by packaging type
| Packaging type | Base material | Anti-static method | Reuse | Customization |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rigid tray | Conductive PS / ABS / PP | Conductive material, surface resistance 10⁴–10⁸ Ω | High (many times) | Medium (requires a mold) |
| Conductive corrugated box | Conductive corrugated board | Carbon-black additive, surface resistance 10⁵–10⁸ Ω | Low (1–3 times) | Low (die-cut) |
| Black anti-static soft tray | Conductive EVA / PE | Carbon-black material, cushioning + anti-static | Medium (several times) | Low (cut / die-cut) |
