Samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets are among the magnetic materials with the best temperature performance, with a maximum working temperature of 350 °C. Around solder pots (wave soldering machines) they keep a steady magnetic force without demagnetizing, for locating, holding or sensing in high-temperature zones of electronics manufacturing.
This magnet has a flux density of about 3000 gauss, is magnetized through the thickness, and is made to tight tolerances for precision processes. It is made by powder sintering, so the material is hard and brittle; avoid impacts when handling.
Specifications
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Material | Sintered samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnet |
| Maximum working temperature | 350 °C |
| Flux density | About 3000 GS |
| Magnetization direction | Through thickness |
| Process | Powder sintering, hard and brittle |
Materials it holds: magnets attract only ferrous metals; stainless steel (304 / 316), aluminium, copper and other non-magnetic metals are not attracted. Check that your application material contains iron before ordering.
Safety: keep away from children and from people with pacemakers. Separate magnets by sliding them apart horizontally; do not pry them apart or pull at an angle, which can crack them. Although they do not demagnetize at high temperature, do not exceed the rated temperature limit.
Common questions
Will a samarium cobalt magnet demagnetize near a wave solder pot? It is rated to 350 °C and holds its magnetism in that environment; do not exceed the rated limit.
