Choosing a center shaft: center shafts are split by tape width into 8 mm, 12 mm (hex), 16 mm (hex), 24/32 mm (shared hex) and 44/56/72 mm (shared); the hex design stops the reel spinning freely. When replacing a center shaft, also confirm the retaining ring size (8–16 mm and 24–72 mm use different part numbers) so it does not come loose after fitting.
