Reflow oven chains and bearings run continuously at 200–280 °C. At these temperatures ordinary mineral greases oxidize and break down, losing lubrication or even carbonizing. This grease, compatible with Krytox GPL227, uses PFPE (perfluoropolyether) base oil and is designed for long-lasting lubrication at extreme temperatures; it is a common choice for routine reflow oven maintenance.
The GPL series is graded by consistency (from the thinner GPL205 to the thicker GPL227); GPL227 suits high-load, high-temperature conditions.
Key properties
Stable across a wide temperature range: the PFPE base oil does not oxidize or carbonize at high temperature, so reflow oven chains stay effectively lubricated at working temperatures above 260 °C without frequent re-greasing.
Long-lasting PTFE adhesion: the PTFE powder thickener keeps the grease on the contact surfaces so it is not thrown off by heat or centrifugal force, extending the lubrication interval after each maintenance.
Chemically inert: does not react with acids, corrosive vapours, most metals, elastomers or plastics, and does not degrade in the flux vapour environment of an SMT plant.
