LEUZE AMS 304i 40 laser distance sensor
A red laser is aimed at a reflector opposite, the distance between them is measured (200–40,000 mm) and the position value is sent to the PLC via PROFIBUS DP or SSI. It is used to position equipment that travels in a straight line, such as overhead cranes, stacker cranes and rail-guided vehicles.
The LEUZE AMS 304i 40 (Leuze part no. 50113677) is an optical laser measurement system from the Leuze AMS 300i series. With the sensor at a fixed end and the reflector on the moving equipment (or the other way round), it continuously measures the absolute position of the equipment with 2 mm accuracy and 0.9 mm repeatability, at travel speeds up to 10 m/s.

Selection points
- Measuring distance: the AMS 304i 40 measures up to 40 m; other ranges and interfaces in the same series are available on request.
- Interface: PROFIBUS DP or SSI — confirm which one your PLC or controller uses before wiring.
- Reflector: not included and must be ordered separately, e.g. reflective tape 200 × 200 mm (part no. 50104361).
- Laser class 2: avoid looking directly into the beam during installation and alignment.
