OMRON micro switch Z-15HW24-B: stainless steel long lever, silver contacts, durable limit switch

Why choose this model

The key strength of the Z-15HW24-B is its combination of a 15 A current rating and a long stainless steel lever (120 mm). When equipment needs a mechanical stroke trigger with a larger control current (driving relay coils directly or controlling solenoid valves), or the mounting position is far from the trigger point, it is a better fit than a typical small micro switch. Mechanical life is 20 million operations, and since it needs no magnet nearby, it can sense position on structures without cylinders.

Micro switch vs reed switch: which to choose?

ItemMicro switch (Z-15HW24-B)Reed switch (SMC / FESTO)
ActuationMechanical contact (lever is struck)Magnetic field sensing (non-contact)
Typical useGeneral mechanical limits, stroke end confirmationCylinder piston position feedback
Current load15 A high current capacityTypically 100–500 mA
InstallationNeeds a mechanical trigger structureNeeds a cylinder with built-in magnet
Life20 million operations (mechanical)Non-contact, theoretically longer

When to choose a micro switch instead of a reed switch: if the equipment uses conventional cylinders (without built-in magnets), the stroke limit must carry a high current, or the mounting position can only be triggered by mechanical contact, the Z-15HW24-B is a more direct solution than a reed switch.

Applications

The OMRON Z-15HW24-B can be used for conveyor end-of-travel limits, upper / lower limit protection on lifting mechanisms, robot arm stroke end confirmation and safety door open / close detection. The long stainless steel lever extends the trigger range, suiting designs where the trigger object is far from the mounting surface and reducing the need for machined mounting brackets.
