The 8 mm feed sprocket is the core wear part of the Panasonic feeder feed mechanism: it engages the sprocket holes in the carrier tape to index it forward. A worn sprocket causes tape slip, unstable feeding or a higher pick-up error rate, hurting placement yield. The 8 mm size is used for mainstream small-part tapes such as 0402 and 0603, so it is used heavily; we suggest keeping it as a routine maintenance spare.
Common cause of unstable feeding: worn sprocket → tape slips → part feed offset → higher placement offset. If adjusting and calibrating the feeder does not help, check the feed sprocket for wear first.
