Machines: Panasonic CM402 / CM602 / CM101
Why it matters: cable carriers (drag chains) guide and protect the X-axis and Y-axis cable harnesses on Panasonic CM series placement machines, keeping the cables inside from breaking through bending fatigue as the head moves back and forth at high speed. When a cable carrier ages or cracks, the cables inside are exposed and rub, causing anything from signal interference to a broken wire and line stoppage. Regularly checking chain link wear and latch condition is a basic maintenance item for preventing unplanned downtime.
When to replace a cable carrier: replace it right away if you see broken links, deformed openings or wear marks on the cables inside, or hear an unusual scraping sound. Do not wait until a wire breaks.
