Why it matters: X / Y axis drivers control the planar motion axes of SMT placement machines precisely and are the key electrical parts that decide placement head positioning accuracy. On Panasonic machines the X axis and Y axis drivers have different specs and are not interchangeable, so the part number must match exactly when replacing one.

X / Y axis driver faults usually show up as abnormal placement head motion: overshoot, vibration that will not settle after positioning, or axis servo alarms (E1xx / E2xx error codes). If the problem remains after replacing the motor, the driver itself should be checked.
