A limit switch detects when a mechanism reaches a specific position in automation equipment and sends an electrical signal to the controller. The XCK-MR54D1 is a Schneider TeSys XCK series rotary limit switch with a cross rod operating head that accepts actuation from any horizontal direction, for hoisting machinery, overhead crane limits and other applications that need multi-direction triggering. Combined with the XE2SP2141 contact block, it provides 2NC (normally closed) contact output, commonly used in safety circuit design.
The operating head and contact block can be replaced separately, lowering repair costs.

2NC normally closed contacts: why safety circuits use them
Safety circuits prefer NC (normally closed) contacts because any fault, whether a contact trips, a wire breaks or a connector loosens, opens the circuit. The controller treats “circuit lost” as a “danger signal”, so a broken wire is never mistaken for a safe state. 2NC provides two independent normally closed contacts for added redundancy, for machines that need dual-channel safety circuits.
Where a cross rod operating head is used
The cross rod can be pushed from any direction in the horizontal plane, so the actuating direction does not need precise alignment. On the travel carriage of an overhead or bridge crane, where load shift makes the actuating direction vary slightly, the cross rod tolerates this variation and still triggers reliably.
