SODER-WICK desoldering braid: SW14 lead-free, SW16 no-clean, SW18 rosin

JIAHON is not the authorized distributor of SODER-WICK in Taiwan.

Pick the series first, then the width. Each series has a clear role: SW14 is for high-temperature lead-free rework (RoHS compliant); SW16 is for no-clean work where you do not want to clean off residue (manufacturer data: up to 40% faster than comparable no-clean braids); SW18 is the rosin type for leaded or general-purpose work. Width depends on joint size: 1.5 mm for fine-pitch SMD leads, 2.0 to 2.8 mm for typical pads, and 2.8 to 3.7 mm for large pads and through-hole parts.

The whole SODER-WICK range comes on ESD-safe spools, so an opened spool can sit directly on a workbench inside an ESD-controlled area without an extra bag or anti-static treatment. The no-clean SW16 is especially useful on high-density SMT boards with tight joint spacing and surfaces that are hard to clean: it removes the cleaning step and lowers the risk that cleaning solvents pose to delicate boards.

A simple rule for width: match the braid to the pad width. A slightly narrower braid still wicks well, but one that is too wide spreads onto neighboring joints and makes fine work harder. For a first order, start with 2.0 mm (80-3-5), which covers the widest range of jobs.
