Overview
Stainless steel containers and racks are common storage equipment in cleanrooms, semiconductor plants and laboratories. Containers come as open, lidded or sealed drums; racks are mainly 4–5 level adjustable types. SUS304 does not shed particles, can be disinfected and resists corrosion — general requirements for clean environments.
This series covers standard SUS304 stainless steel containers (drums) and racks. A JIAHON affiliated company supplies customers throughout Taiwan.
Specifications (typical range)

| Load per level | Depends on capacity and wall thickness | 50–200 kg per level (depends on tube thickness) |
| Lids | None / flat lid / domed sealed lid + clamps / flanged seal + O-ring | — |
| Wheels | — (mainly fixed; base with wheels available) | Fixed / mobile (4 PU wheels + 2 brakes) |
| Surface finish | 2B / BA / brushed | Satin / brushed (avoids fingerprints showing as on mirror finish) |
| Cleanroom class | Suitable for CL1000 / CL10000 | Suitable for CL1000 / CL10000 (CL100 needs a custom clean version) |
Values are typical ranges for stainless steel containers and racks; actual capacity, levels and load depend on the catalog and application, case by case.
Applications
- SMT materials and fixtures: layered storage of reels, fixture boxes and stencils. 4–5 level racks with 350–400 mm spacing fit standard tote boxes.
- Chemicals / IPA: IPA, cleaning agents and waste liquid collection. Use domed sealed lids or flanged sealed containers; use 316L bodies in chemical areas.
- Laboratory reagents and samples: layered management of test samples and reagent bottles. Wire shelves avoid dust build-up and are easy to disinfect.
- Food plant raw materials: raw material drums and work-in-process. We suggest SUS316L, brushed finish, sealed lids and PU wheels.
Selection guide
| Use | Item | Suggested specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMT materials | Rack | SUS304, 5 levels, wire shelves, mobile | With ESD wheels |
| Cleanroom chemicals | Container | SUS316L, domed clamp lid, 20–50 L | PE liner optional |
| Laboratory reagents | Rack | SUS304, 4–5 levels, wire shelves | Fixed |
| Food raw materials | Container | SUS316L, flanged seal, 50–100 L | Brushed finish |
| Waste liquid | Container | SUS316L, clamp lid + vent valve, 50–100 L | Clearly labeled |
This table is a general guide; actual capacity, material and seal type depend on what is stored, chemical contact and cleanroom class, case by case.
SUS304 vs 316L
| Material | Acid / alkali resistance | Typical applications |
|---|---|---|
| SUS304 | Dilute acids and alkalis, IPA, alcohol | SMT, EMS, general fabs, laboratories |
| SUS316L | Some acids, chlorides (not resistant to hydrofluoric acid, HF) | Semiconductor wet processes, chemical areas, food and medical |
Choosing wrongly: in HF areas, both 304 and 316L are corroded by hydrofluoric acid, and the pitted surface becomes a dust trap — choose an HF-resistant material instead. For other chemical areas, decide on 316L by the chemicals used, case by case.
Four seal levels
| Type | Seal level | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open (no lid) | None | In-process buffer, parts storage | Foreign objects can fall in; not for chemicals |
| Flat lid | Low | General parts and consumables | Basic dust protection |
| Domed seal + clamps | Medium | IPA, cleaning agents, waste liquid | Leak-proof, limits evaporation |
| Flanged seal + O-ring | High | Reagents, laboratory chemicals, food raw materials | Replace O-rings regularly |
Cleaning new units and routine care
New unit cleaning: remove film and labels → neutral cleaning (soft sponge + detergent) → rinse (clean water / damp cloth) → wipe twice with 70% IPA → enter the cleanroom (air shower / cleanroom wipes).
- Monthly: wipe all surfaces with neutral detergent and IPA, paying attention to welds and shelf joints.
- Quarterly: inspect welds for corrosion, pitting or discoloration. In chemical areas, change the way of use or the material immediately if anything abnormal is found.
- Flanged O-ring containers: replace O-rings yearly to avoid seal failure from compression set; for chemical drums, every 6 months.
