SMT stencil cleaner and flux remover: JH64 / JH46 / JH37

Stencil cleaner (also called stencil wash, PCB cleaning solvent or flux remover) removes solder paste, flux and rosin residue from SMT stencils and circuit boards. The JIAHON JH series comes in three versions, JH64, JH46 and JH37. Below is how to choose and use them.

Three points when choosing a flux cleaner

How well flux is removed depends on three factors: how well the solvent dissolves the residue, its evaporation rate, and its compatibility with the PCB surface (solder mask, gold fingers and component bodies). Before choosing, confirm whether you are cleaning water-soluble flux (OA) or no-clean / rosin flux (RMA / no-clean); their residues differ greatly in polarity, so a general solvent removes them to very different degrees.

The JH series is designed for no-clean and rosin flux. It suits daily SMT stencil cleaning and post-cleaning of PCBs, and evaporates quickly without water marks, reducing waiting time on the line.

Cleaning methods

MethodUse caseHow to use the cleanerNotes
Manual wipingSmall batches, repair and reworkPour onto a lint-free cloth or wiping paper and wipe the stencil or boardUse lint-free paper to avoid secondary contamination
Printer under-stencil wipingRoutine cleaning on SMT linesUse with the machine’s automatic dosing to reduce solvent wasteCheck the cleaner suits the wiping paper
Undiluted wiping (periodic deep clean)Periodic deep cleaning of stencilsUse JH64 undiluted for automatic under-stencil wiping on solder paste printers (with wiping paper) and for manual stencil wiping; do not dilute with waterLet it evaporate naturally so no residue affects the next print
Ultrasonic cleaningPrecision parts or fine-aperture stencilsIf JH64 is used for ultrasonic cleaning, use an indirect (water-bath) method with good exhaust. JH64 flash point is 12 °C (per SDS); keep the work area away from ignition sources.Confirm liquid compatibility before use

Product features

JH series cleaners dry quickly and leave no water marks, so the next process can start without extra drying time. JH64 was tested by SGS in 2023 and CTI in 2025, with none of the 10 RoHS substances detected.

Supplied in 20-liter drums (about 5 gallons) for batch purchasing on medium to high-volume lines. The liquid is clear and colorless, so usage and cloudiness are easy to check; when it starts to discolor or turn cloudy, it is close to its contaminant limit and should be replaced.

Safety: keep the work area well ventilated when using solvent cleaners and avoid vapor build-up in enclosed spaces. See the SDS for full safety guidance, and check whether solvent-resistant gloves and goggles are needed before use.

FAQ

What is in the cleaner? It depends on the model and its SDS. JH64 is a solvent-based (not water-based) clear liquid; its SDS lists methylcyclohexane and isopropyl alcohol, with content ranges and CAS numbers in the SDS and test report summary. JH64 also has a 2025 third-party report from CTI showing none of the 10 RoHS substances, 4 halogens or PFOA / PFOS detected. Ask us for the SDS of JH46 and JH37.

How do I use it for manual wiping, automatic printer wiping and ultrasonic cleaning? Manual: pour onto a lint-free cloth or wiping paper and wipe the stencil or board. Automatic printer wiping: use JH64 undiluted with wiping paper on the printer’s automatic stencil wipe, or wipe by hand; do not dilute with water (the SDS states JH64 is insoluble in water), and check the cleaner suits the wiping paper. Ultrasonic: use JH64 only in an indirect (water-bath) setup with good exhaust. JH64 has a flash point of 12 °C (closed cup, per SDS) and is a highly flammable liquid; the SDS requires no ignition sources, ventilation and explosion-proof electrical equipment in work and storage areas. Check with the cleaning machine maker that this type of solvent can be used before putting it in the machine. Wear impermeable gloves and chemical safety goggles as the SDS requires.

Can I clean stencils with IPA, and how is it different? Yes. The electronics industry already uses isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to wipe stencils, and IPA pre-soaked stencil wipes are sold for spot cleaning on automatic printers. The difference is composition: IPA is a single alcohol solvent, while JH64 is, per its SDS, a blend of methylcyclohexane and IPA, so JH64 also contains IPA. Both are flammable liquids and need ventilation and no ignition sources. If you are considering a switch, tell us the flux or solder paste you use and your cleaning method.

Are stencil wash, PCB cleaning solvent, stencil cleaner and flux remover the same thing? These names refer to the same type of product: a cleaning liquid that removes residue from stencils and circuit boards. JH series cleaners remove flux, rosin and fingerprints from SMT stencils and PCBs, for both stencil cleaning and post-cleaning of boards.

How do I choose between JH64, JH46 and JH37? Tell us what you are cleaning (stencil or circuit board), the flux brand and model, and your cleaning method, and we will recommend a model and quote. See the table above: for JH64 confirm the material being cleaned; for JH46 the evaporation rate and working temperature; for JH37 whether you are removing no-clean or rosin flux.

Are SDS and test reports available? Yes. JH64 has third-party reports from CTI (2025) and SGS (2023) plus an SDS. For halogen-free or PFOA / PFOS data, refer to the 2025 CTI report (the 2023 SGS report covers only the 10 RoHS substances). Contact us for the full PDFs; SDS for JH46 and JH37 are also available on request.
