The Swagelok MS-TC-308 is a tube cutter recommended by Swagelok. It has a blue cast aluminum body and a built-in hardened cutting wheel, for tube OD from 1/8 to 1 in. (approx. 3–25 mm). Rotary cutting gives a square, burr-free cut — essential for Swagelok fitting installation, because a cut that is not square stops the ferrules from seating correctly and causes leaks.

Why does cut quality matter for Swagelok fittings?
The seal of a Swagelok two-ferrule tube fitting depends on the front and back ferrules compressing the tube outer wall evenly. If the tube end is cut at an angle, has burrs, or is out of round, the ferrules are compressed unevenly when they seat, the seal is incomplete, and leaks become more likely under vibration.
A rotary cutter such as the MS-TC-308 works by pressing the wheel into the tube as it turns, deepening the cut a little with each revolution until the tube parts along the circumference — the cut is naturally square, with no metal chips (compared with sawing). Swagelok’s installation instructions recommend a wheel-type tube cutter rather than a hacksaw for tube preparation.
Notes on use: after cutting, deburr the tube end (with a deburring tool or sandpaper) and check that the tube end is not flattened or oval. For hard stainless steel tubing (316 SS, wall thickness ≥ 1.5 mm), tighten gradually over several turns; do not apply too much force at once, to avoid damaging the wheel or making the tube oval. Please confirm your tubing material and wall thickness before cutting.
