Overview
The TANITA EA-100 is a breath alcohol tester. It uses a semiconductor gas sensor: the person blows for about 5 seconds and the breath alcohol concentration is shown in mg/L. Measuring range is 0.00–0.50 mg/L with 0.05 mg/L resolution (readings below 0.05 show as 0.00). Sensor life is 1,000 tests or 1 year. The body weighs 31 g and measures 32 × 17 × 105 mm, for random alcohol checks at workplaces, job sites and work areas.

Sensor life
The semiconductor gas sensor is designed for 1,000 tests or 1 year, whichever comes first. It suits scheduled group checks (for example, before the morning shift enters the plant) and is not intended for long-term continuous monitoring. If you use more than about 80 tests a month, have a replacement ready in advance.
Note: the EA-100 is a screening device, not forensic-grade equipment. The person being tested should wait at least 15 minutes before testing (to avoid residual alcohol in the mouth affecting the reading), and the mouthpiece should be changed as required for hygiene.
