VETUS ESD tweezers series: how to choose between three series

The first question when choosing is whether metal contact is allowed. VETUS stainless steel ESD tweezers are strong with good gripping precision, suited to general electronic assembly. If components or substrates are sensitive to metal ion contamination (such as some optical components and biomedical chips), choose conductive plastic tweezers: the plastic body is conductive and contains no metal, so there is no risk of metal ion contamination. Black (JHB) and white (JHW) versions work exactly the same and differ only in color; the white version suits cleanrooms where contamination should be visible (dark marks show up more easily on white tweezers).

VETUS stainless steel: ESD-11 vs. ESD-12

ModelTipPrecisionTypical work
ESD-11Pointed (fine, straight)Very high; the tip can handle components 0402 and smallerPlacing tiny SMD parts, precision positioning, straightening IC leads
ESD-12Bent (tip bent downward)High; the tweezer body doesn’t block your viewSide or angled work, removing components from PCBs

The gold-label version is labeled with a surface resistance of 10⁸–10¹³ Ω.

Conductive plastic tweezers: eight tip styles

Model suffixTipMain use
01 (flat)Flat tip, wider contact areaThin parts, films
02 (fine point)Straight fine pointTiny parts, precision positioning (most popular)
03 (round point)Rounded pointRound or spherical parts, solder ball work
04 (narrow flat)Long narrow flat tipFlat packages, edge gripping
05 (narrow flat, wide)Slightly wider flat tip than 04Wide flat SMD parts
06 (bent point)Tip bent downwardAngled work, obstructed positions
07 (long fine point)Longer fine point than 02Reaching into tight spaces, high-density PCBs
08 (wide flat)Widest flat tipLarge thin parts, FPC connector work

How conductive plastic tweezers work

Conductive plastic tweezers are not ordinary insulating plastic: carbon black or metal fibers are blended into the plastic so the material itself has a surface resistance of 10⁸–10¹³ Ω. Static drains slowly and in a controlled way rather than through a sudden conductive path (which would harm components). This resistance range also prevents dangerous sudden currents when touching a charged object.
