BENTLY NEVADA vibration monitoring parts: 26 specifications in 5 groups, covering accelerometers, proximity probes, signal cables, signal conversion modules and Proximitors. For shaft displacement and bearing vibration monitoring on large rotating machinery such as steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, pumps and motors. The model listed on this page is 200150-02-TW; other part numbers are available on request (for 3300 series cables and probes, see our vibration analyzer accessories page).

Vibration analysis is the main health monitoring method for large rotating machinery. It detects bearing wear, misalignment and rotor imbalance early, avoiding unplanned downtime. BENTLY NEVADA (now a Baker Hughes brand) is a standard vibration monitoring supplier for power plants, petrochemical plants and semiconductor fabs worldwide, and the BN 3500 / 1900 / 2300 series are mainstream monitoring platforms that meet API 670.

This series covers 26 BENTLY NEVADA parts in 5 functional groups: accelerometers (200 series), proximity probes (330100–106 series), signal cables (330130 / 930 series), signal conversion modules (200200 series) and Proximitors (330180 series). A JIAHON affiliated company supplies customers throughout Taiwan.

Signal chain: proximity probe / accelerometer → Proximitor → shielded cable → TIM module → monitor display.

Applications

The BENTLY NEVADA signal chain is chosen by machine type. Not every machine needs all 5 groups, but critical API 670 machines (steam turbines, centrifugal compressors) need a complete chain. Five typical deployments:

Typical deployment: the proximity probe mounts on the steam turbine bearing housing (1.27 mm standard gap), and the signal is conditioned by the Proximitor and routed by shielded cable to the BN 3500 rack, which displays the vibration waveform.

  1. Steam turbine bearing vibration (power plant main units): steam or gas turbines use multi-channel X-Y shaft probes + bearing housing accelerometers + axial displacement probes, needing all 5 groups. Follows API 670; SIL level is set by risk assessment.
  2. Centrifugal compressor monitoring (petrochemical ethylene, natural gas plants): multi-stage compressors use proximity probes at each bearing for journal gap monitoring + accelerometers for casing vibration, double protection against unplanned downtime, which is costly.
  3. Process pump / motor monitoring: common centrifugal pumps, gear pumps and induction motors mainly use accelerometers on the casing (proximity probes are less common), simplifying the chain to accelerometer + cable + module.
  4. Semiconductor fab vacuum pump monitoring: mechanical and dry vacuum pumps running in cleanrooms use low-noise accelerometers + shielded cables to keep electromagnetic interference out of micro-vibration signals, and can upload to the fab MES via SECS/GEM.
  5. Large fan / gas turbine monitoring: gas turbines in power generation and large chemical plant fans use multi-channel (8–16 channel) deployment, with X-Y dual probes at each bearing, all connected to a BN 3500 rack.

Why monitor vibration on large machines? The role of API 670

Large rotating machinery (steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, large fans) mainly fails through bearing wear, rotor imbalance, misalignment and shaft bow, and all of these show up in the vibration signal hours to days before a failure. Early detection = planned maintenance = no unplanned downtime.

How do you measure vibration? Shaft position or bearing vibration? They use different sensors:

MeasurementSensor principleBearing typeTypical use
Shaft displacementEddy current (non-contact)Sleeve bearingsSteam turbines, centrifugal compressors (journal position changes)
Bearing vibration accelerationPiezoelectricRolling bearingsMotors, pumps, fans (bearing health)
Velocity (derived)Accelerometer + integrationGeneralMost casing vibration, ISO 10816 assessment

What is API 670? The American Petroleum Institute’s machinery protection systems standard (API Standard 670), 5th edition published in 2014. It specifies vibration monitoring for large rotating machinery in petrochemicals, refining and power (probe physical specs, signal chain design, alarm logic; SIL is covered by reference to IEC 61508 / 61511 in an informative annex). BENTLY NEVADA (now a Baker Hughes brand) is a main reference brand for the standard, and most power plants and petrochemical plants worldwide use the BN 3500 / 1900 / 2300 series as their standard monitoring platform.

Why no part of the chain can be skipped: a proximity probe’s raw output has very high impedance (MΩ level) and a weak signal (mV level), so a Proximitor near the probe must match impedance and amplify the signal, or it will be buried in noise by the time it reaches the rack. The Proximitor also supplies the -24 V DC bias the probe needs. So the probe and Proximitor must be bought as a set.

The model listed on this page is 200150-02-TW; proximity probes, Proximitors, extension cables and other part numbers are available on request.

Selection process and practical tips

In practice you do not start with the probe; you work back from the machine to the signal chain: machine type (turbine / compressor / motor / pump) → bearing type (sleeve → proximity probe, rolling → accelerometer) → environment (high temperature / explosion-proof / cleanroom / general) → total cable length (5 m or 9 m system, cannot be cut) → contract / SIL level (API 670 requires specified manufacturer items; non-critical machines are more flexible).

Installation gap is the basis of signal accuracy: BENTLY NEVADA proximity probes are factory-calibrated at a 1.27 mm (50 mil) standard gap. Set it with a feeler gauge to within ±0.05 mm. The casing expands slightly with long-term heat and changes the gap, so recheck after 100 hours of running.

Signal cable length is a “system spec,” not something to cut: the first segment after the 330130 series number is “length (m) × 10” (040 = 4 m, 085 = 8.5 m). The probe’s integral cable + extension cable must total a 5 m or 9 m system (there is also a 1 m system without an extension cable) and cannot be shortened or lengthened at will. In practice, 5 m systems use 040 / 045 extensions and 9 m systems use 080 / 085. The wrong cable length shifts the signal.

Shield grounding is key to noise immunity: vibration signals are at mV level, and nearby high-current equipment (inverters, motor starters) causes interference. Ground the cable shield at one end only (usually at the Proximitor) to avoid ground loop noise. Next to RF equipment near semiconductor vacuum pumps, consider PTFE-jacketed double-shielded cable.

Signal chain calibration intervals (general case; each case needs checking): end-to-end calibration every 6 months for critical machines (steam turbines, centrifugal compressors), every 12 months for process pumps, and usually 6–9 months for semiconductor vacuum pumps per fab rules. Calibration covers probe gap, Proximitor -24 V DC bias, TIM module linearity and monitor display matching.
