Unstable cylinder speed is often caused by the lack of throttling on the exhaust side. Without it, piston speed depends entirely on supply pressure, and the cylinder tends to shoot out and fail to slow at the end of stroke. A meter-out (exhaust throttling) speed controller limits exhaust flow so the piston keeps a steady back pressure, giving steady motion and controlled end-of-stroke cushioning. The CKD SC3W series is an L-type design with a needle knob for fine adjustment and a lock, so the setting does not loosen from vibration.
Note: meter-out throttles the exhaust side, keeping back pressure steady in the extend direction for smoother motion.

How to choose: port and tube size
The SC3W is chosen by two dimensions: the port thread (R1/4 or R3/8) must match the cylinder port, and the tube OD (Ø8 or Ø12) must match the existing tubing. Both suit standard cylinders with φ20–φ50 mm bore.
- Lock: the needle knob has a locking mechanism, so after adjustment the speed setting can be locked against drift from machine vibration.
- Non-lubricated air: the medium must be dry, non-lubricated compressed air to avoid NBR seal deterioration.
- Fluid temperature: 5–60°C, fine for ordinary factory environments.
