The reflow temperature profile has a direct effect on solder joint yield: too low a peak causes cold joints, while too long at high temperature degrades components or delaminates the PCB. Wickon SMT thermal profilers log the temperature at each point in the oven at the same time through multi-channel K-type thermocouples, so engineers get a complete profile in a single pass — for setting up new processes, equipment validation, post-changeover audits and fault tracing. The only difference between the Q12 (12 channels) and Q24 (24 channels) is the number of points measured at once; choose by how many thermocouple wires you need in one run.

Q12 vs Q24
| Item | Q12 | Q24 |
|---|---|---|
| Channels | 12 | 24 |
| Oven type | Standard SMT reflow ovens (up to 8 zones) | Wide ovens; validating several board types in one pass |
| Typical use | Routine oven audits, building new process profiles | Left / centre / right rows at once; comparing channels across products |
| Thermocouple type | K-type (wire spec can be adjusted on request) | K-type (wire spec can be adjusted on request) |
| Processes | SMT reflow, wave soldering, selective wave soldering, other heating processes | Same |
| Analysis software | Wickon software; exports data for the ramp, soak and reflow stages | Same |
| Thermal barrier | Used with a Wickon thermal barrier box to pass through high-temperature ovens (sold separately; see the temperature rating sheet) | Same |
Choosing by plant situation
| Situation | Suggested model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Single line, oven width ≤ 500 mm, one board per audit | Q12 | 12 wires cover 5–6 zones × two rows of probe points — enough for a standard audit |
| Wide oven (600 mm and wider) | Q24 | Left / centre / right cross-oven differences must be logged together; 12 channels are not enough |
| Comparing profiles of several board types in one pass | Q24 | Plenty of channels: probe two boards and compare them in one pass |
| EMS plant auditing several lines in turn | Several Q12 units | One unit per line avoids scheduling conflicts over a shared profiler |
| OEM / ODM new product introduction (NPI) | Q12 or Q24 | Depends on board complexity and oven spec — please ask us |
The Q12 and Q24 are the same in measurement accuracy, software features and thermal barrier spec; they differ only in channel count. If your oven is a standard size and you audit one board at a time, the Q12 is enough. If the oven is wider than 600 mm or you need to monitor several profiles at once, the Q24’s extra channels give much more flexibility in probe placement on every run.
Check the thermal barrier: the profiler unit must sit in a thermal barrier box to pass through the reflow oven’s hot zones, and the barrier’s maximum temperature depends on the model. Before buying, check that your oven peak (usually 230–260 °C) is within the barrier’s rating.
